Mental Health Resources
We have compiled the following list of resources if you find that participating in the study has evoked any emotional or psychological challenges you would like help processing.
Finding a Therapist You might try Psychology Today or Therapy Den— websites that allow you to search for mental health providers in your area. These sites allow you to search by specialty (e.g., there are specialists in anxiety, grief, depression) and by demographics so that you may choose a mental health resource of your preferred gender, ethnicity, etc. For low-cost counseling, Open Path Collective is an organization that offers affordable therapy options to people who are uninsured, underinsured, or cannot afford standard therapy rates. Many health insurance providers can also help you locate therapists within your health insurance network that meet these same specifications. To find help through your insurance, you may call your insurance, search for mental health providers on your insurance provider’s online portal, or ask your primary care provider for help finding an in-network therapist. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us to let us know if you need help locating additional supports. Meditation teacher, Sean Feit Oakes, has also curated this list of counselors and therapists: https://www.seanfeitoakes.com/resources-healing-practice/counselors-therapists/ Meditation Related Resource If you feel you have experienced any difficulties due to meditation, you may contact Dr. Willoughby Britton at [email protected]. Dr. Britton is the Director of the Clinical and Affective Neuroscience Laboratory at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University, and has expertise in potentially adverse effects of mediation.
